Topic1
Achieving sustainable logistics operations through harmony between people and technology
With the declining birthrate, aging population, expanding e-commerce demand, and chronic labor shortages, securing and retaining human resources for warehouse operations has become a more critical management priority than ever before for the logistics industry.
While labor-saving automation is being promoted to address these challenges, there are various hurdles to automating all operations.
NIPPON EXPRESS CO., LTD. is advancing the development of an environment where everyone can work authentically and vibrantly, based on the belief that a new approach to warehousing is needed—one where people remain central while technology supports them.
The " NX Universal Harmonious Work Warehouse" project, one of the sustainable solutions promoted by the company, aims to achieve sustainable logistics operations by combining technology that reduces workload with the creation of workplace environments that embrace diversity, addressing social challenges such as labor shortages and the active participation of diverse human resources.

Topic2
Achieving a circular economy for building materials by establishing a construction-byproduct collection system
Traditionally, the construction industry has been faced with the problem of mixed waste generated by a wide variety of building materials at construction sites, which makes separation and recycling difficult. It also poses the issue of transportation costs and CO2 emissions from transporting the materials individually to recycling facilities.
In order to promote the recycling of some of the building material scraps that have been landfilled up until now as building material raw materials by utilizing the wide-area certification system*3, Taisei Corporation and Nippon Express Co., Ltd. have developed a “mobile collection system” that can collect multiple construction sites with the same vehicle and then transport them to recycling facilities for each item.
By using a double-door type cage cart called “NRBOX” for collection, management and collection at construction sites are made easier, and the loading rate is improved by transporting different types of building material scraps together in one vehicle. Through this collaboration, we have established a stable operation system by expanding the amount of recycled materials and securing the volume of cargo, and are promoting its spread throughout the construction industry.
In the future, we plan to further improve the system by expanding collection areas, adding compatible items and building material manufacturers, and enabling long-distance transportation through a modal shift, in order to reduce the environmental impact of the construction and logistics industries and build a resource-saving, recycling-oriented society.
