Nippon Express Europe GmbH
NIPPON EXPRESS (NEDERLAND) B.V.("NXNL") successfully reduced its CO₂ emissions by 59%, from 6,494 tons in 2018 to 2,664 tons in 2023, thanks to a focused transition to renewable energy. This effort culminated in 2024 with the achievement of net zero Scope 2 emissions(*1), made possible through a Vattenfall contract for green energy from European wind farms, backed by Guarantees of Origin; GoO(*2).
NXNL prioritizes sustainability in its buildings and operations. Of its 13 locations, six have solar panels, including 1,092 panels at Hoofddorp (company owned site), generating 415 kWh annually and covering 25% of that site’s electricity use. Four locations meet BREEAM(*3)standards, and six leased properties have an energy label of A or higher.
Promoting energy-conscious behavior is another cornerstone of NXNL’s strategy. Employees are encouraged to turn off equipment when not in use, contributing to energy savings. Despite progress, reducing gas consumption and expanding renewable energy use remain priorities.
NXNL’s achievements underscore its commitment to sustainability, but the journey continues. Through innovation, collaboration, and investment in green technologies, NXNL is building a greener future for its employees, customers, and the planet.
(*1)Scope 2 emissions are GHGs emitted indirectly through the use of electricity, heat, and steam supplied by other companies.
(*2)Guarantee of Origin: 1 GoO =1 MWh Sustainable produced electricity.
(*3)BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is an international assessment method to evaluate the sustainability performance of buildings. A BREEAM-certified property demonstrates that it has been designed, constructed, and/or managed with consideration for environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
