NX Shoji Co., Ltd
NX Shoji Co., Ltd began test runs with "Aiko Maru" bunker vessel (total tonnage: 499 tons) this February to fuel vessels at sea using biodiesel(*1) as the in-house fuel.
The biodiesel used in the test runs is an environmentally -friendly resource-recycling fuel, made from a mixture of over 20% FAME (*2). FAME combines waste cooking oil that is usually discarded with conventional marine fuel. Advantages of biodiesel includes its use as a drop-in fuel, or fuel used in the original combustion engines of the vessel without modification. Biodiesel also enables a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional fuel.
NX Shoji Co., Ltd will continue the three-month test run with "Aiko Maru" in the Tokyo Bay while verifying effects of the biodiesel on internal combustion engines and equipment and conducting fixed-point property analysis.
Following these measures, the company plans to sell and supply biodiesel for customer vessels.
NX Shoji Co., Ltd works to build a supply chain of biofuels for land, ocean, and air transportation modes under NX GROUP Sustainability Vision of Supporting a Better Life for People Around the World and the Development of a Sustainable Society Through Our Business. By striving to normalize the use of low-carbon fuels, the company contributes to achieving a recycling-oriented society.
(*1) Biodiesel is Fuel used in diesel engines made from biologically derived oil. Biodiesel used in this project is a mixture of bio-component heavy oil A and (FAME), produced by ester exchange reaction of waste cooking oils and other ingredients.
(*2)Fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) is a type of fatty acid ester produced by the alkali-catalyzed reaction of a fat or fatty acid with methanol.
