*Mother Lake Goals (MLGs) are targets to achieve a sustainable society by 2030, starting with Lake Biwa. MLGs serve as the Lake Biwa version of the SDGs. Thirteen unique goals begin with Lake Biwa, aiming to build a sound cycle that will link environmental, economic and social activities in 2030.
NX SHOJI CO.,LTD.
NX SHOJI CO.,LTD. began test runs with "Aiko Maru" bunker vessel (total tonnage: 499 tons) this February to fuel vessels at sea using biodiesel(*1) as the in-house fuel.
The biodiesel used in the test runs is an environmentally -friendly resource-recycling fuel, made from a mixture of over 20% FAME (*2). FAME combines waste cooking oil that is usually discarded with conventional marine fuel. Advantages of biodiesel includes its use as a drop-in fuel, or fuel used in the original combustion engines of the vessel without modification. Biodiesel also enables a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional fuel.
NX SHOJI CO.,LTD. will continue the three-month test run with "Aiko Maru" in the Tokyo Bay while verifying effects of the biodiesel on internal combustion engines and equipment and conducting fixed-point property analysis.
Following these measures, the company plans to sell and supply biodiesel for customer vessels.

(*2)Fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) is a type of fatty acid ester produced by the alkali-catalyzed reaction of a fat or fatty acid with methanol.
NX AgriGrow Co., Ltd.
NX GROUP established NX AgriGrow Co., Ltd. in 2017 as a new business to operate a solar-powered plant factory located at the foot of the Southern Alps in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture.
The factory accepts local students for tours and work experience, committed to contributing to the local community and informing students about company business, products, and employment benefits.
In November 2023, NX AgriGrow Co., Ltd. participated in the Hokuto City World-Renowned Water Mountain Project, offering work experience to local high school students to convey the appeal of water and agriculture. Students seemed to gain a deeper understanding of agriculture when they discovered that our refreshing vegetables were grown with high-quality water and sunlight from the Southern Alps and are well accepted by consumers throughout Japan. The company additionally explained the advantages of the facility gardening equipment, which allows people in their 60s and 70s to work easily and enables stable shipments in any weather condition. Students also experienced the low workload firsthand through planting the seedlings themselves. Through these efforts, NX AgriGrow Co., Ltd. will continue to improve regional appeal to inspire local children to be even more proud of their hometown.

Nippon Express (China) Co., Ltd. combines comprehensive logistics business operations covering all of China with the ability to function as a regional headquarters covering East Asia (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea).
The company participates in tree-planting activities to contribute to sustainable environments and societies rooted in the local community. March 3 represents Peach Blossom Day, which is believed to originate in China. On this day in 2024, Nippon Express (China) Co., Ltd. held a tree-planting event at the Qingpu District warehouse site in Shanghai. Forty-five employees and their families participated in the event and planted cherry blossom trees (Somei-yoshino). Participants, who normally have little contact with each other at work, enjoyed working and talking together under the perfect weather. Although the 10 trees planted this day may only reduce a negligible amount of CO2 emissions, the opportunity for employees and their families to raise their awareness of the natural environment and social contribution through the tree planting activity was priceless.

NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC.
NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC. produced Logistics for the Future!: The Role of Logistics in Connecting the Region and the World, original teaching materials for junior high school students. These materials cover social studies, geography, and civics. In 2023, DVD, student booklets, and teacher's manuals were distributed free of charge to 1012 schools nationwide that requested them, and are being used in classes as educational materials for schools selected by the Ministry of Education.
NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC. based this material on the specified courses of study and introduces how the development of transportation networks and logistics support consumer life. The materials include introduction and review sections for active learning and group study. Through a survey, one participating school commented, "Although students are familiar with logistics, it was beneficial for them to visualize the example process of how clothing produced globally reaches them. Moreover, the materials showed them a logistic perspective of environmental considerations and work (labor)." NX GROUP will continue to support children’s education and conduct social contribution activities.
