-- Group to participate in Mitsui O.S.K. Lines' carbon inset program --
NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC. (President: Satoshi Horikiri), will be participating in "Blue Action Net-Zero Alliance", a carbon inset program for ocean transport created by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (President: Takeshi Hashimoto; hereinafter "MOL"), and launching the "NX-GREEN Ocean Program" in February 2025 to help customers utilizing ocean freight (FCL) forwarding provided by the NX Group reduce their Scope 3 emissions.
In tackling climate change, the NX Group aims to reduce in-house emissions Group-wide (Scope 1, 2) by 50% from 2013 levels no later than 2030, and in May 2023 submitted a letter of commitment to obtain certification under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). With the goal of helping bring about a carbon-neutral society by 2050 (Scope 1, 2, 3), the Group is endeavoring to design a variety of services that contribute to customers' sustainability management through such approaches as promoting modal shifts using rail and ship transport and offering the "NX-GREEN SAF Program"(*1) that utilizes sustainable aviation fuel.
In February 2024, MOL became the first shipping company in the Asia-Pacific region to make the environmental attributes(*2) of low-carbon voyages using alternative fuels tradable as digital certificates on a platform built in collaboration with the Dutch startup 123Carbon B.V. Utilizing this scheme, MOL commenced the "Blue Action Net-Zero Alliance" carbon inset program for ocean transport in February 2025(*3).
The NX Group's new "NX-GREEN Ocean Program" will procure environmental attributes and digital certificates for specific low-carbon voyages undertaken by MOL-operated vessels and allocate them to customers working to reduce their Scope 3 greenhouse gas(*4) emissions. Customers who have been allocated digital certificates can also reflect them in their own integrated reports and other documentation.
This service will be available for all ocean freight (FCL) forwarding to/from any part of the world for which NX Group issues B/Ls(*5), without any restrictions on the shipping companies used.
The NX Group will continue practicing sustainability management from a long-term perspective and contributing to better lives for people and the development of sustainable societies by addressing climate change through its business.
