Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (President: Shinjiro Takezoe), a group company of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC. (President: Satoshi Horikiri), has partnered with Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. Logistics providers face very high expectations of reducing CO2 emissions to help achieve decarbonized societies, and sustainable logistics services are attracting a great deal of interest from various industries. In this age of global demand for initiatives that address environmental issues, the NX Group is working to create a variety of services that contribute to its customers' sustainability management through, for example, modal shifts to rail and ocean transport and the introduction of EV trucks.

Since the transport of pharmaceutical products requires suitable temperature control from the viewpoint of maintaining quality, isothermal containers must be utilized and transported under temperature conditions appropriate for the products therein. Otsuka Pharmaceutical previously used one-way, passive (non-powered) isothermal containers for international air transport that were discarded after use, but has now adopted the recyclable and eco-friendly isothermal containers provided as part of the NX-SOLUTION Temperature-controlled Transport Service jointly offered by Nippon Express and EMBALL'ISO.

By employing the service this past February for its export shipments of certain pharmaceutical products from Japan to the Americas (and to Europe as of last month), Otsuka Pharmaceutical is actively striving to decrease the waste generated in international air transport. Nippon Express and Otsuka Pharmaceutical have thereby already achieved reductions in CO2 emissions and waste, and they will continue working together to bring about more sustainable societies.

This service features strong temperature control performance compliant with ISTA 7D conditions(*), and the reusable containers are being retrieved in 80 countries/regions around the world. The NX Group is thus providing a resource-recycling logistics service on a global scale while meeting the strict international temperature control standards required for transporting pharmaceuticals.

The NX Group will continue supporting its customers' sustainability management by developing and providing logistics services globally that help cut CO2 emissions to realize carbon-neutral and decarbonized societies.
