Nippon Express (Korea) Co., Ltd. (President: Masami Akiyama, hereafter "NX Korea"), a group company of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC. (President: Satoshi Horikiri), offered a presentation at the 20th Korea-Hokuriku (Japan) Economic Exchange Conference held in Gangneung, Korea, on August 26.
The Korea-Hokuriku (Japan) Economic Exchange Conference is one of the leading regional economic exchange events between Korea and Japan. Hosted by Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, part of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, this 20th conference, the first in six years, was held on the theme of "promoting Korea-Japan interregional exchange". The conference was attended by over 130 participants from both countries, including Japanese representatives from the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, the three prefectures of the Hokuriku region, relevant economic organizations, and private companies, as well as Korean representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, four local governments, the Japan-Korea Economic Association, business groups, companies, universities, and research institutions.
During the logistics section, President Akiyama gave a presentation on "Logistics Cooperation between the Three Hokuriku Prefectures and Korea" that attracted much attention from the visitors. He specifically introduced a scheme being pursued by NX Korea that leverages the hub functions of the Port of Busan to address various issues facing the logistics industry, including Japan's "2024 problem", and discussed using the Port of Busan as one option for the three major Hokuriku ports and other regional ports in Japan in readying themselves for future changes in supply chains.
