Nippon Express' East Asia Region launches BCP solutions in response to logistics restrictions imposed in wake of novel coronavirus outbreak
The East Asia Region (Tatsuo Sugiyama, Managing Executive Officer) of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President) will begin providing BCP solutions utilizing a full range of transport modes to cope with the various restrictions that have been imposed on logistics within China since the novel coronavirus outbreak began.
The spread of novel coronavirus infections has seriously impeded logistics in China, with the number of flights to/from and within the country reduced substantially, restrictions placed on truck traffic between provinces/cities and restrictions imposed on loading/unloading cargo at international railway stations within China.
At the behest of its customers, Nippon Express will be providing BCP solutions by developing alternate routes and utilizing/combining various transport modes to help customers maintain their business operations.
"SEA&AIR Service from China to Europe via Japan"
[Service description]
A BCP solution designed to cope with the temporary suspension/reduction of flights from China, this service offers multimodal door-to-door transport combining maritime transport from Shanghai Port to Tokyo Port with consolidated air cargo transport from Narita Airport to destinations in Europe or the Americas.
[Service features]
The lead time is 9-10 days from the Nippon Express CFS in Shanghai to the arrival CFS in Europe or the Americas
Transport costs will be about 30% less than those for air cargo transport.
The Nippon Express Group will provide high-quality door-to-door transport at origin, destination and transit points.
"Collaborative Service with China-Europe and China Domestic Railways"
[Service description]
A BCP solution designed to cope with the temporary suspension/reduction of flights from China and the restrictions imposed on domestic trucking within China, this service offers transport that links up cross-border rail transport service between China and Europe with domestic rail transport between East China and Xian.
[Service features]
Shanghai will serve as the collection/delivery point for Jiangsu Province and parts of Zhejiang Province, and Ningbo as the collection/delivery point for the rest of Zhejiang Province.
Domestic railway links will be used to transport cargo from Shanghai Station/Ningbo Station to Xian Station.
The lead time will be approximately 5 days from Shanghai/Ningbo Station to Xian Station, 2 days for import/export handling, and 16 days between Xian Station and Duisburg Station (Germany).
Rail transport ensures greater punctuality.
Maritime transport links can be used for traffic to/from Japan.
"SEA&RAIL Service to/from Inland China Utilizing New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (Eastbound Corridor, Southbound Corridor)"
[Service description]
A BCP solution designed to cope with restrictions imposed on trucking within China and with shortages of vehicles and drivers, this SEA&RAIL service combines rail transport from the inland cities of Chongqing/Chengdu to Ningbo Port (Eastern Corridor) or Qinzhou Port (Southern Corridor) with maritime transport from these ports to Japan or to Southeast Asia and Europe.

Eastern Corridor: Chongqing/Chengdu - (rail transport) - Ningbo Port - (maritime transport) - Japan
Example) Chongqing to Tokyo: 11 days by rail (22 days or more by coastal shipping)
Southern Corridor: Chongqing/Chengdu - (rail transport) - Qinzhou Port - (maritime transport) - Southeast Asia/Europe
Example) Chongqing to Singapore: 10 days by rail (24 days or more by coastal shipping)
Nippon Express will strive to establish reliable schedules by avoiding the restrictions imposed on truck transport within China.
The lead time is approximately half that required when using coastal shipping, which is vulnerable to seasonal fluctuations in river water levels.

A BCP solution designed to cope with the reduction of flights within China, restrictions imposed on domestic trucking, and shortages of vehicles and drivers, this transport service utilizes coastal shipping between major coastal cities.
[Service features]
Nippon Express will strive to establish reliable schedules by avoiding the restrictions imposed on truck transport within China.
Large-lot shipments and other bulk transport can be handled.
Coastal shipping will be utilized for transport among the cities of Dalian, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen and Guangzhou.
