Press Release

Nippon Express to begin doing business in Morocco from December 1

Becomes first Japanese forwarder to operate in Morocco

Nippon Express Europe GmbH (Shigeru Umino, President), a regional management company of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), has established a Morocco Branch in Casablanca (Kingdom of Morocco) that will open for business on Friday, December 1, 2017.

Morocco's special economic zone system and active solicitation of foreign companies have drawn many Japanese automotive parts-related companies to the country. In recent years, the government has been pursuing strategic measures designed to establish Morocco as a logistics hub for North and West Africa, using the Mediterranean port of Tangier in northern Morocco as a gateway.

With Morocco gaining readmission to the African Union (AU) in January 2017, its economic ties with both European and African countries are expected to deepen. In anticipation of further logistics links between Europe and Africa, Nippon Express will be extending its European network into Africa with the aim of developing its logistics business.

The new Morocco Branch will be the company's second business location in Africa, the first - the Kenya Branch which having been established in August 2017.

In opening this Morocco Branch, Nippon Express is striving to put in place a structure capable of meeting the needs of customers in Morocco and across North Africa, an area expected to see increasing growth, and to expand actively into the African market to further broaden its global logistics operations.
