PT Nittsu Lemo Indonesia Logistik acquires license for bonded logistics center (PLB)

First warehouse licensed for food storage run by a Japanese logistics company

PT Nittsu Lemo Indonesia Logistik (Hiroshi Yoshioka, President), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Kenji Watanabe, President), on March 17 was granted a license by Indonesia's Directorate General of Custom and Excises for the first bonded logistics center (PLB*1) for food-related goods run by a Japanese logistics company; this PLB is located within an industrial park on the outskirts of Jakarta.

1 PLB stands for Pusat Logistik Berikat (Bonded Logistics Center).

PLB is a new system launched in November 2015 by the Indonesian government, which has adopted and administered the PLB system as a new approach aimed at making the country a logistics hub for the ASEAN region.

Benefits of a licensed PLB
(compared to a conventional bonded warehouse)

  • Only import cargo can be stored in a bonded warehouse, but both import and export cargo can be stored in a PLB.
  • Import goods are exempt from import-related taxes from the time they are moved into the warehouse until they are moved out (customs valuations are made when they are moved out).
  • A PLB can be used by non-residents of Indonesia.
  • Storage time can extend up to three years (only one year for a bonded warehouse).
  • Packing, sorting and other simple operations can be performed within the warehouse.

  • (Warehouse exterior)

  • (Warehouse interior)

Nippon Express will continue developing a variety of business locations to meet the needs of industries ranging from automotive-related products and precision equipment to medical goods, apparel and food products, and to globally support customers' supply chains.
