Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) was founded in 1912 as Wosong Merchant Marine School, and is now one of China's leading maritime universities, with 15 faculties, 55 departments and a student body of approximately 21,000.
Nippon Express (China) and Nippon Express (Shanghai) have established a scholarship fund at SMU as part of their local social contribution efforts, and have concluded an agreement with SMU on offering internships to its students, pledging with the university to pursue industrial-academic cooperation to develop human resources capable of taking on active roles globally in the logistics industry.
The signing ceremony marking the establishment of the scholarship fund was held on the SMU campus and, following the conclusion of the ceremony, Tatsuo Sugiyama, Executive Officer and Regional General Manager, East Asia Region, was presented with an invitation letter from SMU to serve as a visiting professor.
This is the second scholarship fund that Nippon Express has set up at a Chinese university, the first being a scholarship fund established in October 2014 at Beijing Wuzi University.
Nippon Express remains committed to actively undertaking social contribution activities in Asia.
